Stratford boys repeat as champions at 2023 Marawood Conference Track & Field Meet

STRATFORD – The Stratford boys repeated as conference champions, winning five events to roll to the title at the 2023 Marawood Conference Track & Field Meet on Monday at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers won the boys title with 138 points, with Marathon a distant second with 96.5 points. Auburndale was seventh with 50 points among the 12 teams.

Wausau Newman Catholic captured its first girls team conference championship since 2007 with 103.14 points. Marathon was also the girls runner-up, finishing with 95 points. Statford took eighth with 57 and Auburndale was 10th with 21.

Stratford sophomore Jett Schonherr was a triple-winner for the Tigers, winning the 100 meters in 11.39 seconds, the 200 meters in 23.47 seconds, and teaming with Payton Glenn, Austin O’Neil and Coltan Breit to win the 400 relay in 44.78 seconds.

Glenn also won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 5 inches, beating Breit by 2½ inches, for the Tigers.

Stratford’s other victory came in the 3,200 relay as the team of Cree DeFoe, Ethan Heeg, Lance Krieg and Garrett Zuelke won in 8:36.55.

The Auburndale boys had one victory as senior Mason White Eagle won the high jump (6-0).

The Stratford girls had a runner-up finish from the 3,200 relay team of Ella Heidmann, Breleigh Skaya, Kaylie McHugh and Kayla Casperson, which ran in 10:35.24. Phillips won the event with a time of 10:07.09.

Casperson also took third in the 3,200 (12:25.39) for the Tigers.

The Auburndale girls top finish was from Shea Fabisiak, who was the runner-up in the long jump (14-11).

Auburndale will be among the teams to compete at the WIAA Division 3 regional at Tiger Stadium in Stratford next Monday, May 22.
