DE PERE – Columbus Catholic/Spencer junior Charlie Moore shot an 81 and came up five shots short of a state tournament bid at a WIAA Division 2 boys golf sectional on Tuesday at Hilly Haven Golf Course. The meet was hosted by Wrightstown.

Moore finished 9-over par shooting 39 on the front nine and 42 on the back, as he was victimized by three 6s on his card. He tied for 18th place.

The top two teams and top three individuals not on those teams qualify for the 2023 WIAA State Boys Golf Tournament at Meadows Valley at Blackwolf Run in Kohler on June 5-6.

Winneconne won the team title with a 310, sparked by sectional runner-up Parker Groff’s 3-over par 75. Berlin grabbed the other team spot at state with a 324, four strokes better than third-place Wautoma/Wild Rose.

Seymour’s Vince Sigl shot a 2-over par 74 to win sectional medalist honors and earn one of the three individual state berths. The other two were snagged by Peshtigo’s Grant Bauman and Wautoma/Wild Rose’s Trey Reilly, who tied for third overall with 76s with Berlin’s Alex Johnson.
