WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The defending WIAA Division 5 state champion Wisconsin Rapids Assumption softball team stands a win away from another trip to Madison after a dominating 15-0 victory over Marshfield Columbus Catholic in a D-5 sectional semifinal Tuesday at Robinson Park.

Assumption (18-2) moves on to a sectional final against Seneca (20-3) on Thursday at New Lisbon. Both teams were No. 1 seeds in their respective sides of the Division 5 Sectional 3 bracket.

The Royals scored in all four of their at-bats and pitcher Ava Schill limited the Dons (17-5) to just three hits with three strikeouts.

Assumption roughed up Columbus pitcher Hailey Zimmermann to the tune of 14 runs in 3 1/3 innings, eight of which were earned as the Dons committed four errors.

Sam Casperson, Zimmermann and Akosua Yeboah had singles to account for all of the Dons’ hits.
