ANTIGO – The Marshfield Senior American Legion baseball team overcame an eight-run deficit to take a late lead but could not hold on as Antigo scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a wild 14-13 victory in a Wisconsin Valley Legion Conference game Wednesday night.
Antigo led 11-3 after three innings before Marshfield scored once in the fifth and seven times in the sixth to tie the game at 11-11.
Antigo struck back with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Blue Devils weren’t done, scoring twice in the top of the seventh as Emmitt Konieczny singled home Xane Adler and scored on a single by Ben Dietsche.
The lead did not hold, however, as Antigo used three walks and two singles to score twice in the bottom of the seventh and earn the walk-off win.
Sloan Welch was 3-for-4 with a double, a three-run home run and five RBI, and Konieczny had three hits, including two doubles, and four runs scored and four RBI in the loss for Marshfield (2-4, 1-3 Wisconsin Valley Legion Conference).
Marshfield hosts D.C. Everest on Thursday at Jack Hackman Field at 7 p.m.
