Columbus Catholic boys soccer shuts out Amherst in CWC opener

MARSHFIELD – Alex Edwards scored the game’s only goal midway through the second half to lift the Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Amherst in its Central Wisconsin Conference and home opener on Monday at Griese Park.

The Dons had a pair of good scoring opportunities turned away by Amherst goalkeeper Alex Martin in the first half and the game was scoreless after 40 minutes.

Edwards finally connected on a goal 17:21 into the second half and the Dons were able to hold on from there as they held Amherst (2-3) without a shot on goal in the game.

Columbus Catholic (3-1-1) hosts Three Lakes for a nonconference game Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
