Late goal lifts Wisconsin Rapids past Marshfield boys soccer

MARSHFIELD – Ben Widman scored with 5:05 remaining to lift Wisconsin Rapids to a 2-1 victory over Marshfield in the Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer opener for both teams on Thursday at Heiting Community Stadium.

Aiden Armagost scored for Wisconsin Rapids with 3:46 to go before halftime, but Marshfield was able to tie it up when Mason Horn scored off an assist from Landon Lee midway through the second half.

The score held for 15 minutes until the Raiders were able to put in what proved to be the game-winner.

Zak Meyer had 10 saves in goal for Marshfield, which falls to 0-4 overall.

Marshfield plays a nonconference game at Chippewa Falls on Tuesday.
