Stratford volleyball sweeps Auburndale, remains only unbeaten team in Marawood South

AUBURNDALE – The Stratford volleyball team used two big runs in each of the first two sets and went on to sweep Auburndale 3-0 in a Marawood Conference South Division match Tuesday night at Auburndale High School.

The Tigers won 25-20, 25-21, 25-17, to improve to 2-0 in the Marawood South and is the only undefeated team in teh conference after just two matches. Auburndale is now 0-2.

Stratford never trailed in the opening set, although Auburndale did forge a 13-13 tie after an ace by Kylie Anderson and a Stratford error.

Kalyn Schueller took over from there as she had a kill for a sideout and added three more kills around an ace by Daisy Yoder to put Stratford up 18-13.

After the teams exchanged sideouts, Laney Pankratz served four points in a row to up the Tigers’ lead to nine and eventually they won 25-20.

Auburndale started the second set strong, taking a 10-7 lead on two kills by Sidney Wolff and an ace by Maggie Baltus.

Stratford fought back with an 8-0 run as Schueller served seven-straight points.

With the match tied at 19-19, Stratford was able to close out the match by winning six of the next eight points, which included an ace by McKenzie Novotny and kills by Schueller and Tria Tubbs.

Stratford was able to close out the match with an eight-point win in the third set.

Schueller finished with eight kills and 14 digs, Tria Tubbs added five kills and two blocks, and Emerson Roy had 15 assists and four service aces for Stratford.

Wolff finished with 11 kills, Chesney Nagel had 14 assists and seven digs, and libero Baltus had eight digs to lead Auburndale.

Both teams will have a week off before playing Marawood South matches on Sept. 19. Auburndale will be at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption and Stratford will play at Marathon.
