Columbus Catholic soccer finishes 1-1-1 at Kiel Invitational

KIEL – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team tied once, won once and lost once during a busy day at the Kiel Invitational on Saturday at Kiel Soccer Complex.

Columbus opened the tournament with a 1-1 tie against Winnebago Lutheran, went on to defeat Sturgeon Bay 4-0, and wrapped up play with a 2-0 loss to Manitowoc. All games were shortened to two 25-minute halves.

The Dons are now 9-2-2 this season as it saw a seven-game winning streak snapped with the tie.

Alex Edwards scored the Dons’ lone goal, off an assist from Cade Jansen, in the tie with Winnebago Lutheran (5-3-2). Lucas Kreklau had nine saves in goal for Columbus.

In the win over Sturgeon Bay (4-5-3), Columbus only had six shots on goal but four found the back of the net. Edwards had a hat trick and Jansen added the other goal. Charlie Moore had two assists and Ray Becker had another, with Kreklau saving all four shots in goal he saw.

Manitowoc (2-7) scored in the 16th and 50th minutes while holding the Dons scoreless in the final game of the day. Kreklau had five saves.

Columbus Catholic hosts Tri-County for a Central Wisconsin Conference match Monday at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
