Marshfield’s Scharenbroch, Columbus Catholic’s Scheer grab top-10 finishes at Wisconsin Rapids Cross Country Invite

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield’s Natalie Scharenbroch and Columbus Catholic’s Isaac Scheer earned top-10 finishes at the Wisconsin Rapids Jim Newman Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Ridges Golf Course, home of the WIAA state meet in a few weeks.

Scharenbroch was sixth for Marshfield in the girls 5-kilometer race in 19:15.2, 57 seconds off the winning pace set by Mackenzie Babcock of Monona Grove.

Stevens Point earned a perfect team score in the boys race as its top five runners finished first through fifth, led by Ethan Olds, who won in 15:36.1.

Scheer was the top boys runner not on Stevens Point, finishing sixth in 16:13.2.

Marshfield’s Thomas Cashmer finished 15th in 16:51.9 and Owen Hoerneman was 16th in 16:55.0 as the Tigers placed eighth. Columbus Catholic was 12th in the 21-team meet.

Stevens Point won the girls team title as well as Tessa Bruckhart took third in 18:48.3. Marshfield was seventh and Columbus Catholic 14th.

Marshfield will compete at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Meet on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Standing Rock Park in Stevens Point.

Columbus Catholic will run at the Cloverbelt Conference Meet on Oct. 14 at Lake Wissota Golf Course in Chippewa Falls.
