Columbus Catholic volleyball goes 4-1 to take third at La Crosse Invitational

LA CROSSE – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team won four of five matches to finish third at the La Crosse Invitational on Saturday.

In pool play, the Dons defeated Athens 26-24, 25-22; St. Charles (Minn.) 25-10, 25-17; and Prairie du Chien 25-11, 25-19. The Dons went on to defeat Athens 25-19, 25-23, before losing their final match to West Salem 25-19, 18-25, 11-15.

Columbus Catholic senior Courtney Sommer had eight aces in the five matches and now owns the school record with 197 and counting. The old record was 195. Sommer also had 39 kills, 63 assists and 25 digs in the tournament.

Aaliyah Krenn had 33 kills and 19 digs, Alayna Egle had 56 assists and seven aces, and Mattea Schalfke had a team-best 46 digs, 19 kills and seven aces for the Dons.

Izzy Hoglund chipped in 29 digs and eight aces, and Emma Dolgner had 19 kills and four blocks for Columbus.

Columbus Catholic will play at Chippewa Falls McDonell in the Cloverbelt Conference first-place crossover match on Thursday to complete its regular-season schedule.
