MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys soccer team avenged an early-season tie with Wausau East by blasting the Lumberjacks 6-1 in its Wisconsin Valley Conference and regular-season finale Tuesday night at Heiting Community Stadium at Marshfield High School.

Keegan Fredrick had a career-high four goals, and Landon Lee and Matthew Uphoff added scores for the Tigers, who finish the Wisconsin Valley Conference in third place at 4-3-1 and head into the playoffs with a 7-8-1 overall record.

“We started the night off controlling the game speed and tempo very well and that carried through its entirety with the exception of one small blip where we gave up one goal at the end,” Marshfield coach Jeff Molter said. “For the most part we had East on their heels defending what we were doing, we had great space in the midfield to play, and used that to our advantage getting a good build to pull them off balance, and then attack.”

Fredrick had three goals in the first half to push the Tigers out to a 3-0 lead and that was more than enough.

Lee scored 4:18 into the second half off an assist from Joey Ketterer, and assisted on Fredrick’s fourth goal in the 74th minute. Uphoff added the final goal 2:40 later on an assist from Kai Rens.

Marshfield is the No. 5 seed in its WIAA Division 1 postseason bracket and will play a regional semifinal at No. 4 Wausau West (8-5-1) next Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 4 p.m. West defeated Marshfield 1-0 in the only regular-season matchup between the two teams in mid-September.
