Marshfield boys hockey rallies in third period to down Northland Pines

EAGLE RIVER – Marshfield scored three unanswered goals in the third period to pull past Northland Pines 5-3 in a nonconference boys hockey game Tuesday night at the Eagle River Dome.

Marshfield led 2-0 after Judd Higgins and Blake Meissner scored goals in the first period, only to see Northland Pines rally with three goals in the second period to take the lead.

Unfazed, the Tigers pulled ahead in the final period as Owen Hoerneman, Tanner Shortt and Tyler Reissmann scored to finish off the victory.

Marshfield is now 2-2 this season, while Northland Pines drops to 0-2.

Reed Gieseking had 20 saves in goal for the Tigers.

Marshfield opens its Wisconsin Valley Conference season at home against Stevens Point on Thursday at the Marshfield Ice Arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
