MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys soccer team extended its win streak to three after taking two games and winning the Marshfield Invitational on Saturday at Griese Park.

The Tigers defeated Tomah 3-0 and Reedsburg 2-1 to win the tournament title and improve to 5-7-2 overall this season.

Austin Gilbert scored 10:31 into the opener against Tomah. Matt McCann added a goal 3:13 into the second half and Schuyler Seyfert finished the scoring for the Tigers with a goal with 4:48 remaining.

In Game 2 against Reedsburg, Eli Oba scored 4:12 into the game to give Marshfield the early lead.

Sam Garret tied the game for Reedsburg at the 27:09 before Nick Guzowski scored what proved to be the game-winner 9:42 into the second half for the Tigers.

Erik Holm only had to make two saves in each game in goal for the Tigers.

“I thought the kids played really well today,” Marshfield coach Ron Todryk said. “Our pass game has shown steady improvement and now with us being able to put the ball in the net, that’s taken a lot of pressure off the defense and that’s improving their play.”

Tomah and Rhinelander finished 1-1 in the tournament as Tomah defeated the Hodags 4-1. Rhinelander beat Reedsburg 5-1 in the other game of the tournament.

Marshfield returns to Wisconsin Valley Conference action at Wausau West on Tuesday and it hosts Wausau East on Thursday.
