Marshfield girls basketball coach Heidi Michaelis nets 200th career win as Tigers topple Wausau West

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls basketball team won its 54th straight Wisconsin Valley Conference game and gave head coach Heidi Michaelis her 200th career victory with a 54-48 win over Wausau West on Tuesday night at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers improve to 11-3 and 7-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, maintaining their one-game lead over Stevens Point (13-1, 6-1 WVC) and setting up a showdown for the conference lead on Friday night between the two teams at Stevens Point. Point’s only loss came at Marshfield, 62-52, on Dec. 16.

Michaelis, who has led Marshfield to seven conference championships, including the last four, owns a 200-50 record in her 11th season as Tigers coach.

Wausau West falls to 8-7 and 3-5 in the WVC.

Senior guard Taylor Varsho led the Tigers again, scoring 25 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Varsho has scored at least 22 points in four straight games and now has 225 this season. She stands 73 points shy of breaking Marshfield’s all-time scoring record of 1,240 points set by Carlin McClary from 1975-78.

Darian Molter added 11 points, Ellie Fehrenbach had 10 points and six rebounds and Tiffany Stargardt added five points and six rebounds for Marshfield.
