Eau Claire edges Marshfield Chaparrals in pitcher’s duel

EAU CLAIRE – The Eau Claire Cavaliers scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge the Marshfield Chaparrals 1-0 in baseball action Monday night at Carson Park.

Brad Stroik was the tough-luck loser for Marshfield, allowing just six hits and one walk, while striking out 11.

Brett Vavra drove in Mike Darley with the game’s lone run in the ninth for Eau Claire.

Marshfield was held to three hits by three different Cavs’ pitchers. Josh Barnes, Brad Grube and Dylan McHugh had singles for the Chaparrals, who fall to 9-5 with the loss.

Marshfield hosts Abbotsford at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jack Hackman Field.
