MERRILL – The Marshfield boys golf team finished fourth at the sixth and final leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament on Friday at Merrill Country Club.
The fourth-place finish pushed the Tigers down to third in the overall final standings. Stevens Point won all six legs of the tournament and the conference championship. The Panthers shot a 322 to defeat Merrill by 13 shots on Friday. Wisconsin Rapids was third, four shots ahead of Marshfield.
Trevor Thomas of Stevens Point was meet medalist, shooting a 77 to edge Wausau West’s Matt Sandquist by one shot. The two were tied for the overall lead heading into the final meet.
Kyle Hoffman led Marshfield with a 79, tying Stevens Point’s Taylor Thomas for third. The strong finsh moved Hoffman up to eighth in the overall standings. Josh Berres shot a 90 and finished ninth in the overall individuals standings.
Ian Pillai had an 89 and Evan Schneider shot a 90 to round out the scoring for Marshfield. Pillai was 16, Craig Serchen 17th and Schneider 20th in the final standings.
Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 regional on Tuesday at Greenwood Hills Country Club in Wausau.
