Spencer High School junior track and field athlete Rachel Zastrow has been chosen as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com June High School Athlete of the Month.
Zastrow won the voting with nearly 50 percent of the 1,400 votes cast during the period that ended July 7.
Other nominees for the award were Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls track athlete Alexandra Hutchison, Marathon boys track athlete Jaron Olson and Pittsville baseball player Brad Wesley.
Zastrow won the Division 3 girls pole vault title at the 2014 WIAA State Track and Field Championships in La Crosse on June 6-7. She won her third state medal in the event, taking first place with a vault of 10 feet. She placed fifth at state in 2012 and second in 2013.
Zastrow is the 10th and final winner of the monthly award, sponsored by Marshfield Clinic and Burt Trophy & Awards, for the 2013-14 high school sports season. She joins past winners Spencer volleyball player Marisa Johnson (September), the Marshfield boys soccer team (October), Spencer boys basketball player Jeremiah Cattanach (November), Neillsville girls basketball player Jenny Lindner (December), Stratford wrestler Dondrick Tackes (January), Athens girls basketball player Kyncaide Diedrich (February), Marshfield boys track athlete Brad Krueger (March), Marshfield girls soccer player Darian Molter (April), and Loyal boys track athlete Morgan Malm (May).
The WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year for the 2013-14 school year will be announced Thursday, July 10.
We are proud to announce that WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com will continue with the High School Athlete of the Month award throughout the 2014-15 school year. Our first award will be given in September.
