Marshfield girls basketball holds off Rhinelander, improves to 2-0

ANTIGO – The Marshfield girls basketball team finished off a perfect weekend to start its season with a 66-56 victory over Rhinelander as part of the Antigo Holiday Tournament on Saturday at Antigo High School.

Ema Fehrenbach scored 20 points and had eight rebounds to lead the Tigers. Hannah Meverden added 12 points and 11 rebounds, Maddie Nikolai had 11 points and McKayla Scheuer chipped in 10 for Marshfield.

The Tigers (2-0) led 32-22 at halftime and held off the Hodags (1-1) the rest of the way.

Marshfield shot just 38 percent (24 of 63) and made 14 of 23 free throws (60 percent) in the victory.

The Tigers open their home schedule Monday with a nonconference game against La Crosse Central at 7:30 p.m.
