UW-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball beats UW-Manitowoc, qualifies for WCC state tournament

MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team qualified for the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference State Tournament with a 59-48 victory over UW-Manitowoc in a WCC playoff game Wednesday night at the Marauder Gym.

The Marauders (12-5) advance to the WCC state semifinals where they will play UW-Waukesha (15-7) at 2 p.m. Saturday at the JustAgame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells. UW-Fond du Lac (12-8) and UW-Marinette (17-4) will play at 4 p.m., with the winners advancing to the WCC Championship Game at noon on Sunday.

The Marauders shot just 34 percent (21 of 62), but held Manitowoc to 25 percent shooting (16 of 64) and forced 15 turnovers.

Jazwanna Ross scored a season-high 27 points to lead UW-Marshfield. Hayley Bunnell added 11 points, seven assists, and nine rebounds. Ross and Bunnell combined to make 14 of 18 free throws.
