TOMAHAWK – The Auburndale football team earned the win it needed to get back to the postseason.

The Apaches beat Tomahawk 24-19 on Friday night at Tomahawk High School to finish the regular season with a 4-5 record overall and a 4-4 mark in the Marawood Conference. With the victory, Auburndale qualified for the WIAA playoffs after missing out a year ago.

Auburndale will play at Marawood Conference rival Marathon (8-1) on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in a WIAA Division 6 Level 1 playoff game.

The Apaches last made the postseason in 2014 and reached Level 2 of the Division 5 playoffs for the first time since 2002 before losing to Arcadia to finish the season 7-3.

Ryan Isaacson and Aaron Willfahrt had touchdown runs in the first half to give Auburndale a 13-12 lead at the break.

The Apaches extended their lead in the third quarter with a Collin Hawkins TD run and a field goal from Keller Wolfe, moving ahead 24-12.

Tomahawk edged closer in the fourth with a touchdown pass from Easton Phalin to Wyatt Wenninger, but the Auburndale defense closed the deal from there.

Individual statistics for Auburndale and the length of the scoring plays were not provided.
