MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls soccer team dropped a pair of games at its home tournament on Saturday at Griese Park.

Marshfield lost to Rhinelander 4-2 and Ashwaubenon 3-1. Rhinelander beat Ashwaubenon 1-0 in the other game to win the tournament title.

Marshfield is now 2-8-1 this season.

Maddie Haessly and Nina Hashimoto scored goals for the Tigers against Rhinelander, the latter coming 1:52 into the second half to tie the game at 2-2.

Rhinelander scored twice in a 3-minute stretch midway through the second half to pull out the win.

Ashwaubenon led 1-0 at halftime of the Tigers’ second game, and added another goal 4:43 into the second half.

Haessly scored for Marshfield at the 48:33 mark, cutting the deficit in half, but the Jaguars added another goal to finish off the win.

“We need to generate more positive energy into the games and believe in ourselves,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We go in streaks where we play very well and allow the score to dictate our play. Against Rhinelander, we outplayed them and outshot them, but could not get enough goals for the victory.”

Marshfield returns to action Tuesday at Wausau West.
