Auburndale baseball knocks off Stratford

AUBURNDALE – Auburndale scored five runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth to top Stratford 7-1 in a Marawood Conference South Division baseball game Thursday at Auburndale High School.

Stratford led 1-0 before the Apaches used the two big innings to pull away.

Caleb Weinfurter earned the victory for Auburndale (5-2, 2-3 Marawood South), scattering seven hits and three walks in six innings, and striking out four. Colton Wright tossed a scoreless seventh inning to finish off the win.

Auburndale made the most of its five hits and one walk. Logan Willfahrt, Ryan Isaacson, Aaron Willfahrt and Dylan Altmann had RBIs in the victory.

Stratford, which had five errors in the loss, is now 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the Marawood South.

Dakota Singer had two of the Tigers’ seven hits and drove in Lance Heidmann with their only run.

Auburndale plays at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Friday, while Stratford is off until Saturday when it hosts Wausau Newman Catholic for a doubleheader on Saturday.
