Pittsville baseball player Jacob Neve has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com April High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Neve received 590 of the more than 1,600 votes cast.
Other nominees for the April award were Stratford softball player Brittany Bredemann, Spencer softball player Tiffany Meinders, Marshfield track athlete Skyler Theisen, and Auburndale track athlete Rachel Gronemeyer.
Neve helped the Panthers get off to a hot start this season. Through games on April 30, he was batting .543 (19 of 35) with a home run, 12 runs scored, and 11 RBIs at the plate, and was a perfect 3-0 on the mound with a 0.82 earned run average and 30 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings pitched for Pittsville. The Panthers headed into May 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Marawood Conference South Division.
Neve joins Columbus Catholic volleyball player Kendra Baierl (September), Columbus Catholic soccer player Nadim Torbey (October), Abbotsford football player Ethan Kramas (November), Owen-Withee girls basketball player Jennifer Wendler (December), Marshfield boys basketball player Ethan Posteluk (January), Columbus Catholic boys basketball player Tyler Fuerlinger (February), and the Stratford wrestling team (March) as winners of the award during the 2016-17 school year.
