MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Post 54 American Legion varsity baseball team opened its season with a 3-2 win over D.C. Everest in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League matchup Sunday night at Jack Hackman Field.

The game ended with one out in the top of the sixth inning due to lightning.

Everest scored twice in the first inning before Marshfield starter Jake Brueggen settled in and threw 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball before the game was ended. He finished with seven strikeouts and two alkes to earn the win.

Marshfield finally got to Everest starter John Breske in the fifth, scoring three times to take the lead and knock him out of the game.

Ryan Krueger and Paul Maguire each had RBI hits in the fifth for the Blue Devils.

Marshfield will host Wausau at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hackman Field.

The Blue Devils’ scheduled doubleheader against Osseo on Sunday, June 18, has been canceled. Marshfield will play a make-up game against Stevens Point instead at 3 p.m. at Hackman Field.
