SUN PRAIRIE – Tiffany Stargardt had 27 kills and 46 digs to lead the Marshfield volleyball team in each category on Saturday at the Sun Prairie Cardinals Kick-off Tournament.

The Tigers, who went 3-2 in pool play on Friday, went 2-3 during bracket play on Saturday to finish the tournament in eighth place.

Marshfield beat La Crosse Logan 25-4, 25-15, before losing to Manitowoc 21-25, 25-15, 16-14.

In the consolation bracket, the Tigers beat Beaver Dam 25-17, 25-21, and lost to Luxemburg-Casco 21-25, 25-17, 15-11, and Sun Prairie 25-21, 22-25, 15-12.

Sarah Wolff had a team-high 88 assists, Sarah Cherney added 17 kills, Darian Moter had 39 digs, and Mikala Sebastian topped Marshfield with 12 block kills.

“Despite an eighth-place finish, we are extremely pleased with the growth of this team in a week’s time,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “Our inexperience was obvious at times, but we were able to hang with some pretty good teams in this tournament.”

Marshfield hosts a six-team tournament on Saturday. Medford, Abbotsford, Weyauwega-Fremont, Iola-Scandinavia and Superior will provide the competition, which begins at 9 a.m.

The Tigers open Wisconsin Valley Conference action on Sept. 9 at Wausau East.
