Marshfield wins two events, sets three new school records at Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Swimming Meet

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield won two events and set three new school records at the 2024 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Swimming Meet on Thursday at Lincoln High School.

Stevens Point won its fourth-straight WVC Meet title, finishing with 386 points, and forged a tie with D.C. Everest (second, 329 points) for the overall conference title, which combines the conference dual meet season and the conference meet results. Marshfield took third with 324 points and ended up third overall for the season.

The Tigers’ lone swimming win came from the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Simon Dagit, Kevin Buth, Carson Klumb and Henry Hilbelink, which set a new school record in winning the event in 1:30.86. The team that consisted of three of the same swimmers – Klumb, Hilbelink and Dagit – along with Kyle Berres had set the previous school record last season in 1:31.24.

Dagit also set a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming in 53.68 seconds to place third, and broke a 16-year-old record of 54.84 set by Riley Egger in 2008.

The Tigers’ other school-record shattering performance came from the 200-yard medley relay team of Zach Kayhart, Joshua Peters, Dagit and Buth as they placed third in 1:44.42. The old record was set in 2020 with a time of 1:45.7.

Marshfield’s Alik Martin also won the diving competition with a score of 394.15, with teammates Mason Klotz and Dirk Vanderwyst taking second and third.

Dagit added a runner-up finish in the 50 freestyle in 22.40 seconds, Hilbelink was third in the 100 freestyle (51.44), Kayhart took third in the 100 backstroke (1:01.37), and the 400 freestyle relay team of Hayden Nelson, Kayhart, Klumb and Hilbelink also placed third in 3:31.63.

D.C. Everest won eight of the 11 swimming events and set four new conference meet records – in the 200 medley relay (1:35.70), Keaton Barwick in the 50 freestyle (21.36), David Mayer in the 100 freestyle (46.26), and Will VanErmen in the 100 backstroke (52.26).

Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 sectional meet on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Hudson.
