STEVENS POINT – Marshfield had three individual champions and nine top-four finishers overall as it placed second at the 2024 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
The defending conference champion Tigers had another strong showing at the WVC Tournament, finishing with 174.5 points behind first-place Wisconsin Rapids, which ended up with six individual champions and 241 points. D.C. Everest was third with 172.5 points.
Jon Sternweis and Caleb Dennee both won their second-straight Wisconsin Valley Conference championships for Marshfield.
Sternweis, last year’s 106-pound champ, defeated Landyn Freeeman of Wisconsin Rapids with a 12-2 major decision in the 120-pound final, and Dennee won the final at 165 with a 26-11 technical fall over Nathaniel Briggs of D.C. Everest. Dennee was the 152-pound champ in 2023.
Marshfield’s other title came from Owen Griesbach, who took the 175-pound championship with a 12-1 major decision over Mark Jeske of Wisconsin Rapids.
Carter Williquette was a runner-up at 113, last year’s 120-pound WVC champ Easton Ledden took second at 132, Grayden Rode placed second at 157 and Mason Seidl was second at 190 as well for Marshfield.
The Tigers also had fourth-place finishes from Kashton Kilty at 126 and Joseph White at 144.
Results from the girls tournament were not available.
Marshfield will compete at a WIAA Division 1 regional next Saturday, Feb. 10, at D.C. Everest.
