Two late goals lift Marshfield boys hockey past Wausau East/Merrill

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield scored twice in the final eight minutes to escape with a 2-1 win over Wausau East/Merrill in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Tuesday night at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.

Zach Pagel scored 9:04 into the game to give the Bluejacks a 1-0 lead and that held until midway through the third period.

Cole Kenney scored with 7:44 to go to tie the game and Blake Meissner added the game-winner with 4:40 remaining for the Tigers, who were playing their regular-season and conference finale.

The Tigers open WIAA postseason play with a Division 1 regional semifinal at Wisconsin Rapids next Tuesday, Feb. 13.
