MARSHFIELD – Marshfield will have five boys and one girl represent the program at the upcoming state tournament after top-two performances at a WIAA Division 1 individual wrestling sectional Saturday, which was held at Marshfield High School.
The Tigers had three boys and one girl win sectional titles, and two boys finish second to advance to the 2024 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at Kohl Center in Madison on Feb. 22-24.
Caleb Dennee continued his undefeated season and will take a 50-0 record to state after defeating Ray Pember of Menomonie with a 17-1 technical fall in the 165-pound championship match.
Marshfield’s Grayden Rode (37-10) won the 157-pound final, beating Riley Seavers of Stevens Point with a 10-2 major decision, and Owen Griesbach (36-2) rolled to the 175-pound title, beating Dawson Clymer of Hudson 11-2 in the championship match.
Ava Gardner advanced in the girls tournament for the Tigers, winning the 100-pound final with a pin of Teresa Cannon of New Richmond in 1:06.
Carter Williquette (27-15) placed second at 106 pounds, and James Clements (22-7) was the runner-up at 215 pounds to also advance to state for Marshfield.
