AUBURNDALE – Stratford came out firing from deep, hitting 11 3-pointers, and defeated Auburndale 51-44 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Monday at Auburndale High School.
The Tigers’ offense consisted of mostly 3-point shots as they went 11-for-32 from deep, while only attempting 12 2-point shots and making three, as they took down Auburndale, earning a season-split in the Marawood South and knocking the Eagles out of conference title contention.
Henry Zaleski had a game-high 19 points and Brady Schmidt added 14 as both made four 3-pointers in the win for Stratford (19-5, 11-4 Marawood South).
Auburndale had its nine-game winning streak snapped, and falls to 20-3 overall and 13-2 in the Marawood South. With the Eagles’ loss, Marathon clinches the Marawood South championship.
Evan Scholl led Auburndale with 13 points. The Eagles finished 7-for-25 from 3-point range and shot 36 percent overall (15-for-42).
