Columbus Catholic’s Konieczny, Jakobi, Marshfield’s Hinson named first-team all-state by Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association

Marshfield Columbus Catholic seniors Emmitt Konieczny and Blake Jakobi, and Marshfield junior Brooks Hinson were honored with all-state accolades by the Wisconsin State Coaches Basketball Association for the recently completed 2023-24 season.

Konieczny and Jakobi, who helped lead Columbus Catholic to the Cloverbelt Conference East Division and WIAA Division 5 state titles, were among the 12 players named to the Division 5 first team.

Hinson, the Wisconsin Valley Conference Player of the Year, was among the 12 players selection to the Division 1 first team.

Konieczny, who had 31 points in the Division 5 state tournament championship game win over Madison Abundant Life Christian, averaged 14.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists for the Dons. Konieczny completed career with 1,329 points to rank second on the school’s all-time scoring list.

Jakobi averaged 14.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2 steals this season as the Dons went 29-2. He finished with 1,171 career points.

Konieczny and Jakobi, along with teammate Charlie Moore, were named Co-Players of the Year in the Cloverbelt East.

Hinson, who helped Marshfield to its third-straight Wisconsin Valley Conference title and a Division 1 sectional final appearance, led the Tigers in scoring at 16.8 points per game and surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for his career midway through the season.

Wisconsin Lutheran’s Kon Knueppel, who will play collegiately at Duke, was named Wisconsin Mr. Basketball as the state’s Player of the Year. Knueppel averaged 25.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game, leading Wisconsin Lutheran to a perfect 30-0 record and the WIAA Division 2 state title. He finishes his career as a three-time first-team all-state performer and 1,978 points.
