Spencer baseball doubles up Athens to win season-opener

ATHENS – The Spencer baseball team braved the chilly temperatures and secured an 8-4 nonconference win over Athens in the season-opener for both teams on Monday at Athens High School.

The Rockets pulled ahead 3-2 after three innings and put the game away with a five-run sixth.

Reed Knecht picked up the pitching victory, striking out six with four walks in four innings. He also walked twice and scored three times for the Rockets.

Kayden Dietsche had two hits and a two RBI, Dalton Post drove in three runs and Carter Luepke added two RBI for Spencer.

Spencer will be back in action Thursday at Auburndale.
