Athens uses big second inning to cruise past Spencer softball

ATHENS – Athens used a huge second inning and rolled past Spencer 17-2 in a nonconference softball game Monday at Athens High School.

Spencer led 2-1 after scoring twice in the top of the second inning on RBI from Hayley Smith and Ema Schultz, but the Bluejays roared back with a 14-run bottom of the second and finished the game off via the 15-run rule in the third.

Sophia Coker, Sydney Coker and Abby Diethelm each had two RBI for Athens (2-2).

Spencer (1-3) will be back in action Thursday at Auburndale.
