Marshfield softball downs Wisconsin Rapids in WVC opener

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield softball team opened its Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule with a 4-1 win over Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday at Madison Field.

Katelyn Sternweis was brilliant on the mound, striking out 10 while walking two and allowing just two hits in a complete-game victory for the Tigers, who are now 3-2 overall after winning their third-straight game.

Lillian Greisbach scored on a double steal and Taylar Weis had am RBI single in the fourth inning to give Marshfield a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers added two more runs in the fifth on a two-RBI single by Shylah Brogan.

Marshfield will be back in action Saturday with a nonconference doubleheader at Chippewa Falls beginning at 11 a.m.
