Columbus Catholic softball pounds Neillsville in Cloverbelt East opener

NEILLSVILLE – The Columbus Catholic softball team took advantage of seven Neillsville errors and rolled to a 12-1 win in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener for both teams on Friday at Neillsville High School.

Columbus Catholic (3-2 overall) jumped on Neillsville early, scoring four times in the first inning, and added multiple runs in three more frames to finish off the win in five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Akosua Yeboah picked up the pitching win for the Dons, striking out six with just one walk in four innings.

Katelyn Casperson and Ciena Adler each had two hits, with Casperson scoring three times for Columbus. Shelby Spata also scored three times and Mattea Schlafke drove in a pair in the win.

Columbus Catholic will play a nonconference game at Eau Clarie Regis on Monday.
