WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Auburndale softball team opened its Marawood Conference South Division season with a split of a doubleheader with Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Friday at Robinson Park.
Behind freshman pitcher Morgan Griesbach, the Eagles won Game 1 4-1 before Assumption returned the favor with a 6-3 victory in the nightcap.
Griesbach struck out 17 while allowing just one walk and three hits in a complete-game effort in the opener for Auburndale (4-2 overall). She also had three hits and scored twice, while Breleigh Grimm had two hits and drove in a pair in the win.
In Game 2, Assumption (1-2 overall) used a five-run third inning to pull ahead and held on from there.
Macy Vollert and Lexie Stoflet each had two RBI in the win for the Royals.
Auburndale will play another conference game Monday at Wausau Newman Catholic.
