Columbus Catholic baseball wins at Neillsville, stays unbeaten in Cloverbelt East

NEILLSVILLE – Emmitt Konieczny tossed four strong innings and added three hits, and Cy Becker drove in five as the Columbus Catholic baseball team downed Neillsville 9-4 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup Tuesday at Neillsville High School.

Konieczny struck out seven to earn the win, and Carter Sommer and Cy Becker finished off the victory with three shutout innings of relief.

Becker had an RBI double in the first inning, an RBI fielder’s choice in the second, sacrifice flies in the fourth and fifth innings, and a run-scoring single in the seventh to knock in runs in each of his five plate appearances for the Dons (7-1, 3-0 Cloverbelt East).

Bryce Erickson hit a solo home run for Neillsville (5-3, 2-1 Cloverbelt East).

The two teams will play again Thursday at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield starting at 5 p.m.
