Marathon edges Auburndale baseball

AUBURNDALE – Grant Warren had a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to give Marathon a tight 2-1 win over Auburndale in Marawood Conference South Division baseball action Tuesday at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale (6-4, 2-3 Marawood South) tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI single by Kaden Anderson in the bottom of the sixth before Marathon (11-2, 6-1 Marawood South) was able to pull out the win with a run in the next inning.

Tyler Underwood struck out eight in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win and Blake Underwood got the final out to record the save for the Raiders.

Aden Cherney went the distance for Auburndale, finishing with three strikeouts. He also had two hits for the Eagles.

The two teams will play again Thursday at Marathon starting at 4:45 p.m.
