AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale baseball team wrapped up its Marawood Conference South Division schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Edgar on Thursday at Auburndale High School.
The Eagles scored three times in the first and fifth innings of the opener, winning 6-1, and followed that up with a come-from-behind 14-10 victory in Game 2.
Aden Cherney allowed one run in four innings of the first game to earn the win, and Ayden Raab threw three shutout innings for the save for the Eagles.
Caden Weinfurter drove in three runs and Peyton Weinfurter knocked in two, with each having a single to account for Auburndale’s only two hits. Edgar pitchers combined for 10 walks and the Wildcats committed two errors.
In Game 2, Edgar bolted out to a 10-2 lead thanks to an eight-run third inning, before Auburndale scored nine times in the fourth to take the lead. The Eagles added three more in the fifth and the game was called after 5½ innings due to darkness.
Asa Soppe had two hits and four RBI, and Kaden Anderson scored three times in drove in a pair of Auburndale, which improves to 8-5 overall and finishes the Marawood South season at 4-4.
Auburndale will travel to Athens for a nonconference game Friday starting at 4:45 p.m.
