LOYAL – Tyler Peterson struck out 10 over 5 2/3 innings to help lead the Spencer baseball team to a 5-1 win over Loyal in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday at Loyal High School.

Loyal scored once in the first inning but that would be it as Peterson cruised into sixth before giving way to Dalton Post, who finished off the win on the mound.

Drake Johnson had a two-run single in the fourth inning and Zack Roehrborn delivered a bases-loaded double to score three in the top of the seventh for Spencer (6-10, 4-5 Cloverbelt East).

With Loyal’s loss, Columbus Catholic clinches the outright conference championship.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out. A make-up date has not been determined.

Spencer’s next game is at home Monday against Edgar.
