Loyal holds off Columbus Catholic comeback, win Cloverbelt East girls hoops tilt

LOYAL – Elizabeth Manlick and Taylor Weister each scored 12 points but the Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls basketball team came up just short, losing 46-44 to Loyal in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday night at Loyal High School.

The Dons (3-8, 2-6 Cloverbelt East) trailed 31-21 after three quarters but made a comeback in the fourth. Columbus scored 23 points in the final eight minutes, making 11 of 16 free throws, but Jordyn Pieper had seven of her game-high 17 points for Loyal in the final period to hold off the Dons.

Columbus struggled from the field, making 13 of 54 shots, but hung around by making 17 of 26 free throws.

Columbus hosts Augusta on Tuesday.
