Stratford girls basketball uses second-quarter run to blast past Abbotsford

STRATFORD – Stratford used a 17-4 run in the second quarter to pull ahead and blew past Abbotsford 53-30 in a nonconference girls basketball game Tuesday night at Stratford High School.

Carrie Stroetz scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Hannah Schmitt had 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Tigers, who improve to 5-8 after winning for the second time in their last three games.

After a 6-6 first quarter, the Tigers began to pull away with the 13-point advantage in the second quarter. Stratford kept up the pressure in the second half, outscoring Abbotsford (1-13) 30-20 in the second half.

Kim Lecheler led Abbotsford with 15 points as she made 8 of 9 free throws.

Stratford returns to action Friday at home against Pittsville.
