MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point scored three second-period goals and held off Marshfield 4-2 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Thursday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Arena.

Jeffry Wychesit scored with 24 seconds to go in the second period to break a 2-2 tie and Jake Jaworski added an empty-net goal with 53 seconds left in the game to lift the Panthers to the victory and back to the .500 mark on the season at 9-9-1 overall and 6-4 in the WVC. Marshfield falls to 5-12 and 1-7 in the Valley.

Following a scoreless first period, Max Seiter scored first for SPASH at the 4:23 mark of the second, but Marshfield quickly responded with Tylan Schreiner scored off assists from Tom Claessens and Zac Alboreo just 30 seconds later to tie the game.

SPASH again went ahead on a goal by Drew Soik only to see Marshfield tie it again when Claessens scored on an assist from Travis Kersten at the 12:02 mark.

That was all Marshfield could muster against SPASH goalie Michael Storch, who needed to make only two saves in the third period.

Mac Albroero had 23 saves, including 13 in the second period, for the Tigers.

Marshfield returns to action Saturday at home against Medford. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
