NEKOOSA – Austin Hawkins made 10 of 12 shots from the floor and scored 20 points to lead Auburndale to a 55-27 rout of Nekoosa in a nonconference boys basketball game Tuesday night at Nekoosa High School.

Hawkins added seven rebounds and Jake Hansen had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Apaches in the win, which improves their record to 12-2.

The Apaches jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the first quarter and led 28-11 at halftime as the game was never in doubt.

“We did a nice job of passing the ball – 21 assists on 25 baskets is great,” Auburndale coach Chad Weinfurter said. “Holding them (Nekoosa) to 25 percent shooting (11 of 44) is great. We still need to clean up the offensive boards.”

Auburndale made 25 of 44 shots (57 percent) as seven different players scored and had at least one assist.

The Apaches return to Marawood Conference South Division action Thursday at home against Edgar.
