STRATFORD – Riley Spindler smacked a home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning for what proved to be winning run as the Stratford baseball team defeated Marathon 4-3 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday at the Tiger Stadium Baseball Field.

Spindler’s homer broke a 3-3 tie and Drew Gage did the rest on the mound for the Tigers (5-2, 2-1 Marawood South) as he allowed just two baserunners over the final two innings to finish off the win. Gage allowed one run over four innings of relief, striking out two.

Drew Woelfel had three hits for Marathon (5-4, 1-2 Marawood South).

The two teams will play again Thursday at Marathon High School beginning at 4:45 p.m.
