MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Catholic baseball team couldn’t not capitalize on an early lead and lost 6-2 to Neillsville/Granton in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Tuesday at Safford Field.
The Dons led 2-1 after RBI singles by Carter Sommer and Ray Becker in the first inning, but that would be all they would get.
Neillsville/Granton (6-3, 5-0 Cloverbelt East) put up a pair of runs in the third and sixth innings, and tacked on another in the seventh to best the Dons (9-3, 3-2 Cloverbelt East).
Sommer and Becker each had two hits in the loss for Columbus Catholic.
Preston Berg had three hits and Adam Hoeserscored three runs for the Warriors.
The two teams will play again Thursday at Neillsville.
