Greenwood edges Spencer in overtime in WIAA Division 5 boys basketball regional

GREENWOOD – The Spencer boys basketball team’s season came to an end with a bitter 57-54 overtime loss to Cloverbelt Conference rival Greenwood on Tuesday night at Greenwood High School.

The Rockets were outscored 8-5 in the extra period and end their season with a 9-14 record following the WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal loss. Greenwood (14-9) moves on to a regional semifinal at No. 1 seeded Prentice (18-3) on Friday.

Greenwood jumped out to a 17-10 lead before Spencer stormed back to take a 29-25 lead at halftime.

The game was tight the rest of the way, with Greenwood leading by one after three quarters and the score was tied 49-49 at the end of the regulation.

Steven Gilboy scored 21 points and had eight rebounds, Wyatt Phillips had 17 points and four assists and Phillip Ivacic added 12 points on 4 of 7 3-point shooting for the Rockets.

Josh Harlander led the Indians with 22 points and five rebounds.
