Manlick, Weister lead Columbus Catholic past Loyal in WIAA girls basketball regional opener

LOYAL – Elizabeth Manlick continued her recent hot hand, and helped the Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls basketball team to a playoff victory.

Manlick scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Dons to a 47-42 win over Loyal on Tuesday night in WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal at Loyal High School.

Manlick made 6 of 9 field goals and 4 of 5 free throws to pace Columbus (8-13), which faces Prentice (21-1) in a regional semifinal at Prentice on Friday.

Columbus led 13-7 after one quarter but Loyal used a 13-4 run in the second to take a 20-17 lead inot halftime. From there, it was all Dons.

Manlick scored five points and Angie Seubert added four in the third quarter as the Dons outscored Loyal 14-6. Columbus made 6 of 12 free throws and Taylor Weister scored seven of her 11 points in the fourth quarter to do just enough to pull out the win.

Caitlyn Weinfurtner scored 14 points and Jordyn Pieper had 12 points – including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter – to lead Loyal.
