WESTON – Freshman Rebecca Voss took first place in the 3,200 meters to help the Marshfield girls track and field team to a fourth-place finish among eight teams at the D.C. Everest Girls Track Invitational on Thursday.

Voss won the race in 11:53.18 to help the Tigers finish with 82.33 points, just less than three points behind third-place Fond du Lac. Bay Port won the team title with 174 points, followed by D.C. Everest with 162.

Gabriella Myre took second in the 100 meters (13.46 seconds) and teamed with Alexa Fritsch, Nikki Youngblood and Bisola Omoba to take second in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:51.76.

Omoba was third in the 200 (28.31) and fourth in the 100 (13.52). Other fourth-place finishes by the Tigers came from the 400 relay team of Ashley Sternitzky, Miranda Snortheim, Allison Reigel and Youngblood (55.70), Susan Omoba in the high jump (4-8) and Yasmeena Ougayour in the discus (97-8).

Chelsea Akin, Dani Sopiarz, Melissa Brix and Meghan Padron took fifth in the 3,200 relay 912:06.32), Akin was fifth in the discus (93-0) and Amy Krogman took fifth in the 100 hurdles (17.82).

“The girls did a great job despite the very cold weather,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “We didn’t get to train much this week and get to our track, but the girls responded well.

“Rebecca ran her first high school two mile (3,200 meters) and ran a brilliant race fending off two three other outstanding runners in the last 600 meters.”

Marshfield is back in action Tuesday at the Wood County Meet at Nekoosa High School.
