SPENCER – Danica Johnson was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and Paige Johnson had a double and two RBIs to lead the Spencer softball team to a 5-1 win over Gilman in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Monday night at ARC Park.

Nicki Bruss threw a complete game, allowing only one run, which was unearned, and struck out five.

Krystal Weier added two hits, including a double, and an RBI and Faythe Bauer had a single and triple for the Rockets, who improve to 2-1 overall and in the Cloverbelt East. Gilman drops to 1-2 overall and in conference.

Spencer led 1-0 before Paige Johnson’s two-run double in the fifth.

“We were much better defensively tonight and Nicki had good control on her fastball, dropball and change-up,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “We really showed off our speed on the base paths with six stolen bases.”

Spencer is scheduled to play at Greenwood on Tuesday, at Gilman on Thursday and at home against Loyal on Friday in a trio of conference games.
